The Mirror have recently reported that current Doctor Who actor Jodie Whittaker is preparing to leave the show after her third series.
Jodie Whittaker is reportedly leaving the TARDIS for good after filming wraps on series 13. The news comes after co-stars Tosin Cole and Bradley Walsh left their roles as companions Ryan and Graham in the recent New Year's Special last Friday.

When asked by Doctor Who Magazine, Jodie said it was "very being back filming now and not having them around". Perhaps having the fam spilt up could be one of the reasons she decided to step down, if the rumours are true, that is.

The 38-year-old has apparently made the decision to give up her role as popular Time Lord the Doctor as she wants to take on other roles, insiders say. The Mirror reported this on Sunday, after they had spoken to a source. The source, apparently an insider, told the Mirror this: "It's all very hush-hush but it is known on set that Jodie is leaving and they are gearing up for a regeneration."
If the rumours are true, Jodie Whittaker will have played the Doctor for just 30 episodes, which will give her the third-lowest amount of screen-time out of any of the main Doctors, just below Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston.
This news comes as a surprise, as in a recent interview with the Telegraph, Whittaker had said that "To even question an end point [of her time as the Doctor] would be too upsetting."
However, if her contract has come to an end, she may not have had much say in the matter. With ratings steadily dropping and many fans strongly disliking the current Doctor and showrunner, it's not too hard to believe that the BBC might have made the decision not to renew her contract.

Whether the rumours are true or not, fans have been quick to speculate on who the new Doctor might be. While the bookies favourites are still actors such as Michaela Coel and Kris Marshall, many fans have speculated that the role of the 14th Doctor could be taken on by Jo Martin or John Bishop, despite John Bishop already being cast as new companion Dan and Jo Martin having already played the part of a pre-Hartnell Doctor, commonly known among fans as the Fugitive Doctor, last year. While either of these actors getting the part seems unlikely, anything is possible in Doctor Who
Other actors rumoured to be taking on the role include Michael Sheen, Joanna Page, Idris Elba, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Ben Whishaw, Eddie Redmayne and Gillian Anderson.
Doctor Who returns later this year for what could be Jodie Whittaker's final series.
