Alex Kingston wants River Song to meet the Thirteenth Doctor

River Song star Alex Kingston has told RadioTimes.com that "It would be a great shame" if River Song never met Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor.

“It would be a great shame if it were not to happen. Let’s put it that way,” Kingston told RadioTimes.com“I’m open to anything. I don’t have an idea about how we should meet or anything like that. But I would like River to meet her, and plant a big, fat kiss on her!”

Actor Alex Kingston, who played River Song between 2008 and 2015, recently told RadioTimes.com that she would like to return to the role of River Song on TV in order to meet the Thirteenth Doctor. Alex Kingston's last on-screen appearance took place 2015, when she met the Twelfth Doctor for the first (and last) time. Since then, she has appeared as River Song in multiple Big Finish audio series and has appeared alongside David Tennant, John Barrowman and in her own Doctor Who spin-off, The Diary of River Song, since 2015. But after starring in 32 episodes of the audio drama, Alex Kingston is ready to return to TV. Kingston has also written a new novel which continues River Songs adventures beyond Doctor Who.

“It’s because of the fantastic fan community that I decided to release this new book, because, in the past, there had been a book that was written that was supposedly written by River,” she explained.

"She has an alter ego, which is Melody Malone, but she also has this diary. And the diary can have entries forever about not just her adventures with the Doctor, but her adventures with Captain Jack, or what she does when she’s not with the Doctor, because she’s not with him all the time.

“I’d love to do more,” she said. “Let’s see what the reaction is to this one first. I might get burned. Who knows?

“Certainly in terms of Big Finish, I think we’ve still got lots more River adventures in the bag there.”

The Ruby's Curse by Alex Kingston is available to pre-order now and is published 20th May 2021. The Diary of River Song series 1-8 are available now. Doctor Who series 13 airs on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US this Autumn.
