Ninth Doctor actor Christopher Eccleston returns to his iconic role 16 years after quitting the show in a brand new Big Finish series.
The Ninth Doctor makes a comeback today as Big Finish kick off their brand new series The Ninth Doctor Adventures. In the first of four releases (written and directed by executive producer Nicholas Briggs) takes the Ninth Doctor to 'Piccadilly Circus in 1959, Belgium 1815 and far flung future worlds where machine intelligences regard sentient life as mere biofuel', as Big Finish put it.
Christopher Eccleston said “I've really enjoyed playing the Doctor again. As I've always said, he was always a joy to play.
"Somebody with that amount of optimism, enthusiasm and brains and heart – two hearts! It's not something you get to do often.”
The series marks not only Christopher Eccleston's first Doctor Who appearance since 2005 but also the first time he has ever appeared as the Doctor in any spin-off media.
This is undoubtedly an incredibly exciting event and, as Big Finish officially announced details of the second box set today, excitement will continue to build over the coming months.
“To think, sixteen years ago the Ninth Doctor reached out, grabbed Rose Tyler by the hand and told her to run off into new adventures." Producer David Richardson said, "And now he’s back, grabbing us all by the hand and leading us off to whole new worlds, new friends and new foes. It’s Saturday teatime 2005 all over again… and it’s wonderful to have him back.”
